See how climate science discoveries are made! The JOIDES Resolution (JR) is a research vessel that drills into the ocean floor to collect and study sediment samples that provide scientists with a trove of information about Earth’s climate history. In this event, researchers currently aboard the JR will livestream from “ship to shore”—from their current location off the coast of Portugal to the Climate Museum Pop-Up. They will give a tour of the vessel and explain how they use data from these ocean floor samples to better understand climate change, geology, and Earth’s history. We will also be joined in-person by Dr. Gisela Winckler of Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, who was the Co-Chief Scientist of a major international JR expedition in 2019. Dr. Winckler will moderate the livestream and field additional climate science questions from the audience. This event is intended for all ages and will include kid-friendly interactive activities.
