Strategic Climate Communications: Take Back the Narrative

  • The Climate Museum Pop-Up 120 Wooster Street New York, NY, 10012 United States (map)

How have Big Oil and Gas strategically used the media to spread misinformation and disinformation? What impact has that had on influencing public perceptions of climate change? Where do you fit in on the Global Warming’s 6 Americas spectrum? How can individuals who want to engage in climate conversations oriented towards solutions, shared values, and optimism best navigate this terrain?

We explored these questions and more with Bora Chang, Associate Director for Institutional and Equity Communications at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and a lecturer on strategic communications about climate change at the Climate School at Columbia University. Bora was in conversation with Climate Museum Director of Education and Engagement Tricia Brown to consider the climate media landscape, climate communications research, and practical takeaways for effective climate conversations.
