Climate Museum Presents Free Programs on Climate Arts and Storytelling During Climate Week NYC

NEW YORK, NY (Sept. 13, 2021) – The Climate Museum will present an exhibition and lead sessions focused on climate arts, storytelling, and sustainable tourism during The Nest Summit at this year’s Climate Week NYC, the largest climate event of the year. The Nest Summit is bringing climate action together under one (green) roof on September 21-22 at the Javits Center, NYC. Produced in partnership with the Climate Group, the Nest Summit aims to broaden awareness of the climate crisis and increase visibility, participation, and inclusivity during Climate Week NYC. Climate Museum activations include: 

Decade of Change Photography Exhibition

On Tuesday, Sept. 21 and Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 9am-6:30pm, visit Decade of Change, a global photography award and collaborative exhibition dedicated to documenting the defining matter of our time: the climate crisis. Spanning various themes relating to climate change, the exhibition harnesses the power of photography to tell stories and galvanize change. The Climate Museum worked with project leads 1854 Media/The British Journal of Photography and NXT Events Media Group to co-produce and judge this global photography contest and exhibition.

Greening NYC's Tourism Footprint

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 1:30pm - 2:20pm, Climate Museum Director Miranda Massie will moderate “Greening NYC's Tourism Footprint,” a panel discussion on the importance of sustainability in tourism. Panelists will explore the measures they are taking to make the city's most important industries more climate-forward. Panelists include Claire Cutting, Director of Sustainability at Marriott International; Ursula Hoskins, VP for Capital Planning, Construction and Operations & Chief Sustainability Officer at the New York Botanical Garden; and Stephanie Lucas, Deputy Director of Horticulture and Operations at Madison Square Conservancy. Rising to Meet Current Challenges: The Rapid Growth of Climate Arts

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 3:45pm - 4:15pm, Climate Museum Director Miranda Massie will explore the role of the arts in building the deep sense of community needed to confront the scale and urgency of the climate crisis with both ambition and compassion. In this session, Massie will speak about the indispensable role of art in catalyzing collective changes in values and in creating the necessary space for a full range of climate emotions. The presentation will include examples of recent work across creative genres, an ongoing participatory art campaign by the Museum, a special guest from Broadway Green Alliance, and an audience Q&A. 

1,001 Voices on Climate Change: Book Launch

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 5:30pm - 6:30 pm, author Devi Lockwood, author of 1,001 Voices on Climate Change, will join Climate Museum Director Miranda Massie in conversation, followed by audience Q&A and book signing. In this newly published book (Simon & Schuster, Tiller Press), Lockwood connects readers with the existential threat of the climate crisis through human-centered storytelling. This book is a hopeful global listening tour, channeling the urgency of those who have already glimpsed the future to help us avoid the worst.
