Ways to Take Action

Write to Your Representatives

Your voice matters! Writing to your elected officials is an effective way to get their attention; they know that just one postcard can represent the shared opinion of hundreds of their constituents. If your representatives aren’t leading on progressive climate justice policy, let them know how you feel about it. Or, if they are, you can thank them for their work. Every postcard builds momentum toward climate legislation and progress.

HOW TO DO IT

  1. Head over to our Postcard Station and choose a postcard. Each postcard shows a section from our mural, Making Tomorrow.

  2. Write a message to President Biden, your Senator, or local representatives. You can look up their contact information on a Climate Museum iPad or on your phone. (If you’re unsure of how to address the postcard, just write the recipient’s title and name and we’ll do the rest.)

    • Tell them you’re part of the bipartisan supermajority in support of climate justice policy. Ask them to work to end oil and gas subsidies and to take the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge rejecting political campaign donations from the fossil fuel industry (more information on the pledge is linked on the back of this sheet). Or, simply tell them why the climate crisis matters to you. Any message you send will make a difference.

  3. Write a message to the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, who works on international climate change negotiations. His contact information is available on the nearby action table.

    • Ask him to commit the United States to loss and damage payments to developing nations harmed by climate disasters and to lobby other wealthy nations to fulfill the promises they have made in this regard.

  4. Drop your postcard in our mailbox and our team will send it.

  5. Make it a habit to contact your representatives about their political decisions and issues that concern you.
