Meet the Artist: A Climate and Creativity Workshop with Gregory Christie

  • The Climate Museum 105 Wooster Street New York, NY 10012 (map)

As those who’ve had a chance to visit the Climate Museum’s exhibition THE END OF FOSSIL FUEL know, it’s grounded by an extraordinary 45-foot mural by artist Gregory Christie that invites visitors to consider the hard truths of the climate crisis, the struggles we inhabit today, and the climate-safe and just future that we can bring into being.

The Climate Museum was delighted to host a hands-on creative bookbinding workshop with Christie.

Christie is an award-winning artist and illustrator. He is focused on encouraging audiences to find a love for learning and to build bridges of empathy, and he is a sought-after teacher in formal and informal settings. His expansive practice as an artist includes bookbinding, which will be the focus of this workshop.

Christie explained his artistic process—including his approach to the creation of Making Tomorrow—and his own journey. He then guided participants in creating their own personalized books using recycled and upcycled materials. Inspired by his mural, participants will be invited to write or sketch their visions of a better climate future in their books. Each participant left the workshop with their own climate justice journal.
