Youth, Disability, and Indigenous Justice in the Climate Movement

  • Javits North 445 11th Avenue New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

In a recent talk, 26-year old climate leader Daphne Frias, founder of Box the Ballot, said, “disabled folks are at the frontline of the climate crisis.” Larissa Pinto Moraes, who is one of the heads of the Brazilian youth-led organization Engajamundo, works towards promoting more accessible and intersectional spaces for young people to advocate for climate change. Both Daphne and Larissa are young leaders in the climate movement whose work grounds itself in questions of intersectional justice. Join these leaders, along with moderator Tori Bush, Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow in Climate Humanities & Social Justice at the Climate Museum, for a discussion of disability justice, intersectional approaches, tokenism in (and tokenization of) the youth movement, and the work we can all do to meaningfully support and lift up the work of young leaders.
